お互いを宿敵と認め合うアルティーリ千葉と長崎ヴェルカのB2セミファイナルシリーズは、5月12日の初戦をアウェイの長崎が 104-91で制し、まずはB1昇格まであと1勝に迫った。しかもA千葉は、この試合の第1Qにレオ・ライオンズが故障離脱という不運なアクシデントに見舞われ、思わぬ形で窮地に立たされた。

悔しい敗北に泣き出してしまうファンの姿もあったGAME1。しかし翌日、GAME2の千葉ポートアリーナには4,092人の大観衆が詰めかけ、ティップオフ前にブラックネイビーの闘志たちをスタンディング・オベーションで迎えた。A千葉のキャプテン大塚裕土が「これぞホーム」と感嘆した様子で語ったこんな情景の中で始まったGAME2は、その大塚の3Pショットが冴えたA千葉が序盤からペースをつかみ、93-61という大勝。運命的なGAME3の機会をつかみ取った。

チームリーダーの一人であるライオンズを失い先手を取られた状況で、ファンの中には悲観的な思いになった人もいただろう。チームにはそんなところはなかっただろうか。A千葉のアンドレ・レマニスHCに、GAME1、GAME2の両試合後の会見でその点に関する質問をしてみた。

☆GAME1後のやり取り

——ライオンズを欠いたことでの自信を失っていないか、自信を維持するために重要なことは何か

それについてはロッカールームで皆と話しました。我々はリーグ1位の成績でシーズンを終えたのであり、それには理由があるのだと。タレントはそろっているし、しっかりした、タフなバスケットボールをしてきたからなんだということです。シーズン中に難しい局面が何度かありましたが、成功してきました。我々はそこに自信を持てるはずです。
We spoke about it in the locker room. We finished the season as the #1 team and there’s a reason for that. Because we’ve got good talents in the room, we played good blend of basketball, tough blend of basketball. We’ve been…, during the season, in difficult situations before and found a way to success in the difficult situations. We can take some confidence from that.

私はこのグループを信頼しているし、試合後彼らが話を聞く様子や、チームとして発言していたことを聞いてさらに自信を持つことができました。明日（GAME2）はいいプレーを見せてくれるでしょう。
I got a good belief in the group and after the game the way that they sat and listened, and then just the things they said as a team gives me confidence that we’ll come out tomorrow and play well.

以前にも話しましたが、私のように年を重ねてきた人間にはいろんな経験があります。初戦を落とし、カギとなるプレーヤーを失い、周囲が心配するような状況で成功を手にしたこともあります。彼らなら大丈夫だと思っていますよ。盛り返す力を持っています。明日（GAME2）も懸命にプレーしてくれるはずです。頑張ってもらえると思うし、次につなげてくれるでしょう。
Again, one of the things about being old, like I am…, is I have lots of experience and I’ve been in this situation before. Lose game 1, injury to a key player, everybody outside thinks that this is a big thing to overcome. But I’ve found success in that environment before. So, yeah, I’ve got good faith in the group. I think that group’s got good resilience about it. I think we’ll come out tomorrow and we’ll play hard. We’ll get after it and give ourselves a chance.

☆GAME2後のやり取り

——スタンディング・オベーションで迎えられたことについて
試合前のスタンディング・オベーションは本当に素晴らしく、夢のような雰囲気で会場を満たしてくれました。それをいい方向に使うというのがこんな状況でのチャレンジになりますね。ディフェンスでどう動くか、ルーズボールに飛び込めるか、ボックスアウトできるか。オフェンスをうまく走らせることができるか、スペーシングをしっかりできるか。エナジーに満たされていると、そういったところで頑張れますからね。
Standing ovation before the game, energy from that crowd was amazing like we’re all appreciative of that fantastic energy in the building. Now the challenge is to put that energy and harness that energy and put it into things that make positive difference which is…, what can I do on defense, can I fight for loose ball, can I boxout…? Like put the energy into those things, running into offense, spacing. That’s what the energy can impact in the positive way.

——特別な環境下で気持ちを抑えるのが難しくなかったか

試合の流れの中で、ネガティブなことに気を散らされてしまうことが出てきます。注意散漫になるとレフェリーに文句を言ったり、集中が切れてその場の状況に圧倒されてしまいます。
Obviously with the emotion of the game, you can get distracted by things in the negative sense, things and about what’s going on in the game. When you get distracted, you start talking to the referee or you know you just lose your focus or you can get overwhelmed by the occasion.

ただ、うちには何人かベテランがいて、そうした状況で彼らの経験を生かすことができます。年長者はしっかり準備ができているので、若手が少し動揺したと見れば助けの手を差し伸べて激励できます。そこが大きなカギの一つでしょうね。
I think thankfully we have a lot of veterans on the team and their experience in these moments really helps us to manage those emotions and it helps younger players like you know older guys are prepared to step in when they see younger guys just need a little bit of direction and help them, support them and encourage them. That’s a big key to it for sure.

——本当に大きな意義のあるGAME3で、プレーヤーのマインドセットを整えるためのカギ

私はこれまでにオリンピックの準決勝も3位決定戦も経験しています。勝つか負けるかは大きな差ですが、それだけ大きなものを乗り越えようとした経験は持っています。最高レベルのプレーヤーと一緒に戦って学んだのは、結果ばかりを気にすると問題が生じるということでした。間違ったことにフォーカスが向いてしまうと、恐れや疑心暗鬼に駆られてしまい、負けることを心配し始めてしまいます。
I’ve been a lot of games, you know. I’ve been in the Olympics playing in the semifinal, in the Olympics playing for the bronze medal. Like with this significance trying to overcome. Winning and losing is a big difference. But the things that you’ve learned when you’re around the best players is if you focus on the consequences, then that becomes problematic, if you put your focus on the wrong area, you can get paralleled with fear, you can start to second-guess what you’re doing, you worry about the consequence of losing.

シーズン中にもこのことをチームで話してきました。昨年B3から昇格する際に、同じ経験もしていますしね。勝ったら昇格。負けたらもう一年B3に留まる。それをやって今があります。
So, I think that’s something that we have spoken about all year as a team. We had the experience last year with the qualifying from the B3. That was exactly the same situation. One game. You win. You go up. If you lose you stay in the B3 for another season. So, we have had some experience of that.

重要な局面で平常心でいられるかどうかのカギは、私なりにはこう思っています。もしできる限りの努力をしたのなら、家に帰って家族と会ったときに君のプレーは誇らしいもののはずだ。それ以外にできることはないじゃないかということです。勝つ時も負けるときもあり、誰もが勝てるわけではありません。それは自分でどうにもならない時もあります。何が起こるかわからないわけですから。でも、自分の努力とコート上で何押してくるかは自分しだいです。それは自分でコントロールできることですよね。
And the importance of staying in the moment and having clarity of the mind in this moment, for me again, always come from…, if you give your best effort, you go home and see you family, they can be proud of the way that you play. Then that’s all you can do. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Not everybody wins. Sometimes that’s not in your control. Things happen. But what you can control is your effort and what you give on the court. That’s what you can control.

泣いても笑っても…勝負のGAME3は14日17時ティップオフ

レマニスHCは、自分自身もチームも自信と誇りを維持していることをこのように語っている。同じようなことは当然チーム内でも話されているのだろう。はたしてチームはGAME3でどんな反応を見せるだろうか。

GAME2で3Pショットを9本中6本決め20得点を稼いだ大塚は、試合後場内のファンに向けて、「もうね。本当にね…、皆さんの力で僕らを勝たせてください。あと1勝です、あと1勝！全力で、コートで戦うので、皆さんも一緒に戦ってください！」と呼びかけた。一緒にB1昇格を勝ち取ろうという思いが短い言葉にあふれていた。熱烈なこの呼びかけに千葉のファンがどんな反応を示すかも興味深い。

一つキースタッツを挙げておこう。長崎が勝利したGAME1では、長崎のフリースローは15本中13本成功（成功率86.7％）だったが、A千葉が勝利したGAME2では8本中3本成功（同37.5％）。ホームファンの思いが届いたことを示す数字なのかもしれない。GAME3のチケットは、当日昼過ぎまでにすでに完売となった模様だ。
